Dok rat u Gazi bjesni, administracija Bidena je rasporedila rekordan broj američkih vojnika u Jordanu, otkriva novi izvještaj Kongresu. Povećanje vojnika do sada nije bilo prijavljeno.
Sada se u Jordanu nalazi rekordnih 3,813 američkih vojnika, prema izvještaju Bijele kuće o ratnim ovlastima Kongresu objavljenom 7. lipnja. To je povećanje od 625 vojnika u odnosu na prosinac, pri čemu broj vojnika i zrakoplovaca premašuje broj vojnika u bilo kojem trenutku od Drugog Zaljevskog rata i invazije na Irak, pokazuje pregled prošlih izvještaja o ratnim ovlastima.
Administracija Bidena pokušala je zadržati u tajnosti svoje bliske vojne veze s Jordanom, s Nacionalnim vijećem za sigurnost Bijele kuće koje je instruiralo komunikacijske službenike State Departmenta da izbjegavaju spominjanje svoje vojne koordinacije s tom zemljom, posebno, prema internim bilješkama koje sam pregledao. Kada je Iran u travnju ispalio rakete i bespilotne letjelice prema Izraelu, Jordan je bio ključni partner u njihovom obaranju, a čak je dopustio izraelskim avionima da operiraju u jordanskom zračnom prostoru. Jordan kao partner Izraela posebno je osjetljivo pitanje, stoga je želja Washingtona da se razgovori o Jordanu svedu na minimum.
Moguće je da je povećanje američkih snaga u Jordanu pokušaj nadoknade smanjenja američkog borbenog osoblja u Iraku, nakon pritiska iračke vlade za njihovo povlačenje.
Postoji mnogo razloga zbog kojih bi administracija Bidena željela umanjiti svoje rastuće vojno prisustvo u Jordanu. Prvo, Jordan je dom za preko dva milijuna palestinskih izbjeglica i stalni podsjetnik arapskom svijetu na patnje palestinskog naroda. Prosvjedi su potresli Jordan u posljednjim mjesecima, protiveći se suradnji njihove vlade s SAD-om dok ih naoružava i pomaže Izraelu u ratu. Čak i za autoritarne vlade poput Jordana, javno protivljenje može biti zabrinjavajuće ako je dovoljno veliko.
