Social › Gay Marriage
T>T Personal answerTheologically, I believe marriage can only be between a man and woman. However, the people, by way of their representatives, can determine how society will interact with the institution; it will not change it fundamentally. Given such, I would vote that it should be recognized only between a man and woman. Regardless of it's legal status, the LGBT community should be treated with respect and dignity and should not be discriminated against in regards to employment, housing or other basic rights and services. Those who have a genuine disagreement with the same sex marriage, especially due to religious reasons, should not be forced to support it. |

Domestic Policy › Drug Policy
T>T Personal answerIf someone wants to waste their life on drugs, that is their prerogative. Although I believe it is morally wrong to abusively consume any substance, I am indifferent to whether it is legally permitted or not. Legislating against it will not prevent controlled substances from being abused and can increase one's susceptibility by bringing abusers into contact with more aggressive dealers in prison. At the same time, there are those that will not consider the consequences of abusive consumption if not confronted with criminal sentences. Substances that have legitimate medicinal benefit can be permitted. But at a minimum, drug use should be heavily regulated and consumption while operating machinery, driving a motor vehicle, or participating in other criminal activity should be considered attempted assault with a deadly weapon and prosecuted harshly. Those caught selling outside authorized channels or with unapproved substances or of insufficient quality should be subjected to severe criminal and civil liabilities. |

However, I believe that many unions fail to see the big picture and do cause harm to the larger economy. No individual should ever be forced to join a union or pay dues and using company or union time for political lobbying should be viewed as theft. |

Housing › Homeless Encampments
T>T Personal answerIndividuals have a right to traverse and loiter on public property, regardless of whether they are homeless or not, so long as they are not damaging property or otherwise depriving the rest of the public of their ability to enjoy those spaces safely. Large groups of people creating "pop-up villages" within a space not designed and designated for the purpose create a hazard for those living there, deprive the rest of the general public of its use of the property, and can create an undue and unintended burden on surrounding infrastructure. I support the rights of individuals to traverse and loiter as well as the rights of local governments to protect public assets and ensure public safety. |
Healthcare › World Health Organization
T>T Personal answerYes, but only in an amount sufficient to acquire "soft power". Most of our policy making should reside at the state and local levels. |
